The people enjoyed a visit to Europe without any visa hassle as fifteen European countries had their cultural stalls in a festive environment followed by a vibrant musical concert in open air theatre. The event included entertainment shows, delicious traditional food stalls and a variety of competitions and quiz shows. The purpose of 'Eurovillage' was to promote the EU by introducing people with the European culture and different traditions.
"Eurovillage" was organised by the EU delegation with the co-operation of representatives of member states. The main purpose of the event was to raise awareness amongst the people of Islamabad about the European Union, an EU representative said. Besides promoting culture, the 'Eurovillage' showcased a carnival where stalls were displayed and foods from EU countries were sold. There was also a host of activities for adults and children.
Moreover, the representatives of participating countries informed the visitors about the relationship between Europe and Pakistan and provided information about member states. It was an opportunity for the families to come and get a taste of the EU. Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan, Jean-François Cautain pointed that the year of the 60th Anniversary of the EU Treaty of Rome was also the first year that the EU was organising a 'Eurovillage' with participation from the Member States 'to remind everyone of the EU's cultural richness, while also underlining our unity."
